Akrapovic Exhaust Systems
Established in 1990 by Igor Akrapovič during his racing career, there was a distinct lack of high-quality exhaust systems open for purchase to the public. Igor ended up designing his own exhaust system with the experience that he had gained in the motorcycle tuning field. At the time, it was common for exhaust systems to be made out of steel. Keeping weight in mind, Igor replaced steel with materials like carbon fiber and titanium. Akrapovič Exhaust Systems began with the motorcycle industry and grew to be a global exhaust supplier in the sport, being used in Moto GP, Superbike, Super sport, Supermoto, Motocross, and Enduro.
Exhausts are constructed from materials such as carbon fiber and titanium in the company's factory which has its own titanium foundry and hydroforming machines. The titanium foundry is located in a 800 m2 (8,600 square feet) building at the company's main location in Ivancna Gorica. The casting process involves wax injection, X-ray radioscopy, and various chemical analyses, aided by CAD/CAM/CEA tools. The company also manufactures a titanium range called the Akrapovič Evolution, as fitted on the Akrapovic M4 as well as EAS M4.
The Evolution titanium exhaust system for the BMW M3/M4 consists of a single-central muffler with valves and bigger link pipe tubes with a middle muffler, all designed to make the performance and workmanship of the Evolution as perfect as its looks. With no second set of cats—(unlike the stock system), the whole system is designed to give the smoothest flow—and the power and torque gains of the BMW with the Evolution system are simply amazing.
Crafted entirely from titanium, the Evolution system has a unique sound to complement its substantial increase over a very wide rpm range. In-depth engineering has produced a sound completely different from the stock system, giving a deep and sporty sound – with no unwanted overtones or drone, and also a significant change to the sound with the valves in the open or closed positions.
The Evolution system needs no re-programming of the ECU because it doesn’t trigger any warning lights. With tailpipes in titanium or carbon, and a handcrafted rear diffuser, all available as optional extras, the BMW Evolution is as beautiful as it is powerful.
