Sometimes the more special and rarer stuff makes their way into our shop. This ultra-clean 2001 Z3 M Roadster is definitely special as it's equipped with the same S54 engine out of the E46 M3. Only about 1,500 S54 M Roadsters reached North America, making it a unicorn. This particular example only has a little over 29,000 miles on the odometer, making it a museum-quality time capsule. A tell-tale trait of an S54 equipped Z3 M without looking under the hood is a gauge cluster with a light gray background.
This little white roadster was also treated to the full Dinan Stage 3 treatment, which included exhaust, intake and tune. It is also rolling on 17'' Dinan wheels made by Fiske. Just at a glance, one could tell that this M Roadster is its owner's pride and joy. If this classic ever gets sold, the next owner can definitely buy with confidence!
When this customer came to us complaining that his Z3 wasn't handling like it used to, we knew what to do. As it turns out to be the case with many older BMWs, this Z3 had blown out shocks and several failed OEM bushings. To remedy the problem, we installed a set of KW Variant 2 (V2) coilovers, Poweflex front control arm bushings, Powerflex rear trailing arm bushings and Rogue Engineering rebuildable rear shock mounts. Once the car was lowered, it was obvious that the wheels needed to be pushed out to the fenders to complete the look. To finish the job we installed 18mm and 10mm Macht Schnell spacer kits. The owner couldn't be happier with the new set-up, saying it handles and rides 100 times better than before.
