What is Synthetic Motor Oil?
BMW Motor Oil is a fully synthetic oil, meaning it’s man-made rather than refined directly from crude oil. BMW engines are designed around synthetic oil because it offers several advantages:
- Longer life: Synthetic oil resists breakdown better than conventional oil
- Cold-weather protection: Flows more easily in low temperatures, reducing engine wear during startup
- Heat resistance: Handles high temperatures without thinning, protecting the engine under stress.
That said, driving habits and conditions can affect oil life Frequent short trips, stop-and-go traffic, or extreme heat/cold may require more frequent changes.
