All BMWs and Supras equipped with MEVD172G DME from 2018 with 03/2017 or higher iLevel Software require a Bench Unlock for flash-based tuning. For vehicles produced after July 2020, you must use the Femto Bench Unlock process. For those local to our Anaheim, CA facility, we are able to unlock your DME without removing it from the vehicle.
Once your MEVD172G series DME is unlocked, this enables OBD based tuning. This is required beforehand for such platforms as Bootmod3, through the OBD2 Port. We do not provide unlocking services for MHD Flash Tunes.
Starting in 2018, all BMW DMEs produced were shipped with an updated bootloader that rendered OBD Flash Tuning using existing protocols impossible without a Bench Unlock. Once unlocked, OBD Flash Programming is again possible.
Unlocking Process Outline
- Purchase the Unlock procedure from this page.
- Remove your DME from your vehicle
- Mail your DME to our facility for preparation. If local, contact us to schedule an appointment and we can unlock your DME without removing from the vehicle.
- Bench Unlock is performed Same or Next Business Day, depending on when it was received and shipping cutoff time
- Reinstall DME(s) in your vehicle
- Flash with your preferred BM3 tune (available separately)
Note: Labor not included for DME removal/installation or return shipping costs. Bench Unlocking is limited to vehicles produced no later than 5/2020. For vehicles produced 6/2020+ you must use the Femto Bench Unlock.
